I work in the mediums of watercolour, ink, graphite and oil paint to create representational artwork. Working with these mediums allows me to explore an illustrative style. My subjects include both humans and animals, often isolated in settings that work to communicate a particular narrative. The narratives in my work are influenced by personal musings and feelings as well as learned material from Women and Gender Studies. These narratives often involve juxtaposing historical artworks featuring women with contemporary society, focusing on popular culture and the stereotypes of modern society while commenting on the sexual objectification of women in historical art. I also find the narrative of my artworks while I am in the process of creating them, many revolving around the independence of the figures involved. I prefer to explain the purposes of my artwork, but I also wish to allow the viewer to have their own views and thoughts about what my artwork expresses.
